…Tech and Human Rights in China: Ha!
Does the high-tech community really support human rights in China? Look at what some of the big boys have been doing:
1. Cisco for selling the Chinese government network management equipment, allows them to block access to “undesirable” web sites.
2. Yahoo for providing user identities to Chinese officials of “undesirable” dissidents, leading to the incarceration of a journalist, Shi Tao, until 2014.
3. Google and Yahoo for censoring search results as the request of the Chinese government to avoid access to “undesirable” and “objectionable” content, such as “democracy” and “free speech.”
4. Skype for censoring “undesirable” words in text chats within its Chinese software package without informing the user, at the request of the Chinese government.
