….Why You Don’t Need to Upgrade to Leopard

1. For most Mac users, Leopard will make little difference in terms of your every day computing. Sure, Apple talks about the wonders of Time Machine but having an automatic backup of everything on your Mac is certainly nice but aren’t we supposed to be backing stuff up anyway already?
2. The WSJ’s Walter Mossberg describes Leopard as an “evolution, not a revolution”. Wait until Leopard evolves and works out some of its kinks - e.g. a problem with its firewall and some problems playing nice with Firefox - before you need to upgrade. If Windows users had been smart, they would have sat on the sidelines for some time before getting into bed with Vista.
3. Apple’s a brilliant marketing machine. The company’s ability to generate so much excitement about Leopard is impressive but would you expect anything less from Apple. After all, this is a company that has convinced millions of consumers that the iPod is the only MP3 player worth buying even if you have to pay a premium to purchase one.
4. There’s probably better ways to spend $129 rather than doing it to upgrade Leopard. A sweet AirPort Express, for example, would be a better choice. This isn’t to suggest you should ignore Leopard forever but you have lots of time to get on the bandwagon.
In the name of fairness, iNode offers up eight reasons why you should upgrade to Leopard.
Update: Dave Winer, a high-profile developer who played a key role in the developed of RSS technology, opines that Leopard is not a good release because the OS no longer seems as reliable as it used to be. Interesting. Alec Saunders, who used to work for Microsoft, suggests that Leopard is just like Windows…or Windows or just like Leopard.
