….New Year’s Eve is Anti-Climatic

1. Expectations are unrealistically high. Far too many people believe they’re going to have the best time ever, only to be disappointed when it’s not nearly as much fun as they hoped.
2. It’s expensive. If you go out, the cost of tickets, dinner, booze, clothing, flowers, taxis, etc. can add up in a hurry. And there’s never a strong return on the investment.
3. The realistic chances of meeting someone special (aka hooking up) are slim to non-existent. And if you do, it tends to be that I’m-so-drunk-what-I-have-done kind of thing where you really wish it hadn’t happened.
4. People are partied out after the holidays, and the flurry of holiday parties, drinking, eating, socializing, family engagements, etc. By the time New Year’s Eve rolls around, many people are socialized out, leaving them with little energy for New Year’s Eve. On top of it all, most of us only get one day to recover before going back to work.

New Years Ever is over rated I never remember a great New Year’s Eve!
And that is funny you mentioned Princess Bubble because that is the hippest fairy tale! I just heard about the book.

Agreed. About 5 years ago I went to a ‘house party’ which was dreadful. A friend arrived shortly before midnight to find me sat in a chair in the corner of the room while most of the people around me played charades or tried to make balloon animals. I voiced the word ‘help’ in her direction, and we left straight after midnight, though it took several hours to get home and the unlicensed cab cost twice the usual amount. Since then we vowed ‘never again’ and so every year we get together at one of our homes, open up a bottle of wine, and talk, or watch TV, or read, have a little to eat - and actually enjoy bringing in the New Year with good company and no pressure to go anywhere or have forced fun.
Best of luck for 2008.
