….People Read the Obituaries

January 4th, 2008 Posted in Other Stuff

Obits
1. Morbid curiosity. For whatever reason, people want to know if anyone they know or anyone famous has bought it. It’s not like it affects their life but, nevertheless, people want to know.

2. It reminds you that you’re alive. Reading about the life and death of other people makes you realize that life is short so you’ve got to seize the day(s) while you can.

3. Obituaries often feature people who have enjoyed long, fruitful lives. Rather than being depressing, obituaries are often uplifting stories about people who lived, loved and made an impact in some way.

4. They usually take up an entire page so when you’re browsing through the newspaper, they’re difficult to miss.
