….Why Geeks Love Trade Shows

1. Events such the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas encourage geeks to get out of their cubicles/basements so they can enjoy some sunshine before they disappear into the bowels of a mammoth convention centre for a few days.

2. It’s like going on vacation - except better. They’re surrounded by like-minded people who look, act and talk like they do. There’s no need to dress better, act more civilized or talk about boring stuff like politics, world affairs or social issues. If they want to talk about why 802.11n technology is great but wait until 802.11z.

3. For their bosses, sending a geek to a trade show is like sending them on a vacation - except they’re still working. Geeks, however, look at spending three days in Las Vegas, New York or San Francisco as an all-expenses paid perk so it’s a win-win scenario for everyone.

4. It’s a golden opportunity to literally and figuratively salivate over new technology being displayed. Nothing like sparking the dreams of a geek by showing him a whole bunch of the latest and greatest in one room. And, if they’re lucky, they can meet one of their heros by rushing them after patiently sitting through a keynote speech.

5. Babe Booths (aka promotional models) and Beer. While hanging out with fellow geeks, they can indulge their wildest fantasies by checking out the beautiful women hired to seduce er, attraction geeks to a company’s booth. And after all the excitement of new technology and babes, geeks get to practice their social skills by having a few expenses-paid beers with other geeks.
