….Gardening is Such a Hot Business

1. Demographics. With older people staying active longer, gardening is an activity that provides exercise and socializing in the comfort of your own backyard. It goes a long way explaining why 82 million people spent $35-billion on lawn and garden products last year in the U.S., according to the National Garden Association.
2. Gardening is benefiting from the green/environmental movement. More people want to do their part to take care of Mother Earth. What better way than getting your hands dirty by nurturing a garden full of carbon dioxide-absorbing plants to health.
3. It’s a business with no lack of equipment to purchase, including all kinds of gadgets and potions to help plants grow better and faster. Then, there’s the huge variety of plants you can purchase - many of them with exotic names. And for gardening retailers, if a plant doesn’t perform as promised, it’s not like you get many dissatisfied customers taking it back.
4. With rising food prices becoming a reality, more people might turn to gardening as a way to supply some of their own food. It may not be long before people start carving out an area in their backyard for easy-to-grow vegetables such as peppers, tomatoes, carrot and lettuce.
5. Believe it or not, gardening is becoming sexy and fashionable as the pride people take in decorating their homes extends right into the backyard. If you need any inspiration, check out Home & Garden TV.

There sure seems to be resurgence in vegetable seed sales this year. That would lend some credence to the fact more people are either starting or continuing to plant vegetable gardens.
